The Walk for Al became the signature event for the Garnwen Trust in February 2008.

It gave family and friends an opportunity to get together and walk in memory of Alex and Beth in the beautiful surroundings of the Garnwen Mountain and forestry.

The Walk is now in its seventh year and attracts up to 500 people who join us for a memorable day out.

The event begins at Maesteg Golf Club, Pleasant View, Maesteg at 10a.m. when the participants begin their journey over the Garnwen Mountain and into the picturesque Afan Forest Park.

Derek Brockway (Weatherman Walking) started the walk for us and boy did he bring the weather with him!

It was an absolutely beautiful day and the walk was really well attended. Derek did a 'full on' weather forecast before he started the Ford Mountain Bike Club on their way and he then started the walk and actually took part himself.  We've raised about £2,000 so far but there are still sponsorships forms to come in.

We now have the sponsorship and gift aid declaration form available for download.

There are currently three events on the day, a junior walk, a senior walk and a mountain bike event lead by the Ford Mountain Bike Club, Bridgend.

We are delighted to welcome the many organisations who join us on the day, they include Maesteg Welsh Junior Rugby Team, the local Army Cadets, the Airforce Cadets, local schools, Contagious Dance Group and local Rotary Clubs.

The Walk for Al is a family day out, and after the walk there are refreshments and entertainment available at the Golf Club from 2 p.m. until early evening.
