Garnwen Trust

The Garnwen Trust is a local South Wales based charity set up by the parents, family and friends of Alex Collins and Bethan Jones following their loss during a flight from Bangkok to Phuket, Thailand in 2007.

Alex and Bethan were 3 days into the trip of a lifetime through Asia and Australia when they were amongst almost 90 people who lost their lives.

Since their loss the family, friends and the wider community in Maesteg and the Llynfi Valley, South Wales have set about creating a fitting and lasting legacy for Alex and Bethan. The initial target was to build and operate a facility for in the picturesque Afan Agroed Forestry area, an area renowned for walking, cycling and other outdoor activities near the town of Maesteg. The facility will be for the use of the wider public but specifically designed for use by disabled members of the community.

Afan Forest Park - Log Cabin Fund

To date the Trust has raised over £160,000 towards the completion of its first project. Planning consents and building design are well underway and an initial date for completion in 2015 has been set. The successful completion of the facility will be the first of many projects planned by the Garnwen Trust.

The success of the Trust has been achieved through the overwhelming support and participation of the local community. In particular they have supported the two signature events developed by the Trust, notably the Walk for Al and The Party in the Park.

The Only Boys Aloud concert was a great success for the Garnwen Trust and a complete 'sell out'. The atmosphere in the hall was electric and Noteworthy and Adam Robert Lewis didn't disappoint giving fantastic performances. Only Boys Aloud really raised the roof and were given a standing ovation by the audience.  It was truly a night to remember!

Furthermore the Garnwen Trust has received the support of the Admiral Insurance choir called Admiral Inspire. The choir has chosen the trust as their preferred charity in 2012 and have released a debut album currently available through iTunes and in CD format all proceeds from the album go to the Trust.
